Nativo is an ongoing series of works born out of the love and respect I have for the American Mustang as well as the hard working migrants that call this place home no matter where they come from. The thoughts behind the art embrace an animal that has persisted in it's drive for survival on this continent through shameful persecution, in like manner as the immigrants that have sought refuge and hope here for hundreds of years. I have seen the same sacrifice, the same hunger for freedom and spirit of independence in the eyes of both. The Andean textile designs are a nod to my family's own South American migrant roots, and to the beautiful tapestry we weave as a diverse nation.
